Riding Apollo Go in China
Baidu counted 3.2 million fully driverless rides in Q1 2026 alone and more than 22 million cumulative public rides as of April 2026, and its Q2 2026 results, released Aug 18, 2026, put Apollo Go in 28 cities worldwide, up from 27 in May. Those counts include cities outside China, and the published sources don't break the mainland list down city by city.
Baidu's own Apollo Go app is how you book, since the service isn't on Uber in China. Nothing has been published on fares, airport service, age limits or whether a visitor with a foreign passport can open an account. Check the app before relying on it for a trip.
Two other driverless operators work in China with narrower, better-documented areas: Pony.ai in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Beijing, and WeRide in three Guangzhou districts and parts of Beijing. Abroad, Apollo Go runs driverless in Dubai and, per KrASIA, Abu Dhabi, and is road testing in London. Dimsum Daily reported a free 14-day community trial in Tung Chung, Hong Kong, from Oct 21, 2026 for Islands District residents, with a backup operator aboard.
