Riding Apollo Go in London
Testing began on Jul 28, 2026 with Apollo Go's RT6 vehicles and Freenow by Lyft as the ride-hail partner, so the first public rides would likely come through Freenow by Lyft. Electrek reported safety operators on board during the Brent tests. Baidu also has an agreement to put Apollo Go on Uber in London, though TechCrunch reported that those Uber tests hadn't begun as of June 2026.
Any public launch has to clear the UK's new permit process. Under the Automated Passenger Services regulations, in force since May 15, 2026, a permit needs Department for Transport approval and, in London, Transport for London consent. The UK rules page sets out the steps.
For a robotaxi in London today, Wayve on Uber is the only option, with a licensed driver aboard. Apollo Go already runs fully driverless elsewhere. In Dubai it is bookable in its own app and on Uber, and in mainland China Baidu reported 3.2 million fully driverless rides in Q1 2026.
