About Avride
Avride carries riders in one city, Dallas. Its Hyundai IONIQ 5 robotaxis launched on Uber there on Dec 3, 2025, with an on-board specialist behind the wheel. Because someone sits in the driver's seat on every trip, the Dallas service has a safety driver and is not driverless.
The Dallas service area is about 9 sq mi and takes in Downtown, Uptown, Turtle Creek and Deep Ellum. That is small next to Waymo's roughly 50 sq mi of central Dallas. No other Avride city is in testing or announced.
Riders in Dallas have other choices. Waymo has been open to anyone in its own app since Aug 4, 2026, Tesla Robotaxi has run there since Apr 18, 2026, and Zoox is testing. Since May 28, 2026, Texas has required companies running commercial automated vehicles to hold a TxDMV authorization, a rule covered on the Texas rules page.
Booking and riding
Booking happens in Uber. Request UberX, Uber Comfort or Comfort Electric for a trip inside the Dallas zone, and if an Avride car is nearby you may be matched with it at no additional cost. Avride does not offer an app of its own for riders.
Airports fall outside Avride's Dallas area. At Dallas Love Field, Waymo is testing at the terminals and says service will come soon, as the Love Field page describes. On age, luggage and pets, Uber's standard rules for the product you choose are the ones that apply.
Recalls and investigations
NHTSA opened a preliminary evaluation of Avride on May 6, 2026 after 16 crashes in Dallas and Austin. TechCrunch reported the investigation on May 8, 2026, describing the crashes as mostly in Dallas. Avride has no recall on record. Rides continue with an on-board specialist behind the wheel, and the safety page will log any change in the investigation's status.
