Riding Tesla in Dallas

Tesla's @robotaxi account announced the Dallas rollout on Apr 18, 2026, the same day as Houston. Launch videos showed nobody in the front seats, though it is unclear whether every car in the Dallas fleet is unsupervised. The published size is 31 sq mi, roughly a trapezoid from Downtown north through Oak Lawn, Highland Park and University Park to Bluffview, with Love Field on the west edge and Lower Greenville on the east. A reported push west toward Irving is not confirmed.

Everything runs in Tesla's own app, and the account holder must be 18. Nobody under 18 rides alone. Children 8 to 17 can ride in a Model Y with an adult, and under-8s can't ride. Love Field sits at the zone's edge, but no source says Tesla picks up or drops off at the airport, and Dallas freeway use and fares are both unpublished.

Dallas has more robotaxi operators than most cities. Waymo's zone is bigger, about 50 sq mi from Northwest Highway down to the Bishop Arts District, and anyone has been able to book it in the Waymo app since Aug 4, 2026. Avride runs on Uber in a 9 sq mi core with a specialist behind the wheel, Zoox is reported to be testing, and Mobileye on Lyft exists only as an announcement. Of the Dallas operators, only Tesla has published rules for riders 8 to 17.
