Riding Pony.ai in London
TechCrunch reported the plan on Oct 8, 2026, and Gasgoo covered it the next day. Testing hadn't started as of Oct 13, 2026. Rides would go through the Uber app, since Pony.ai hasn't announced a London app of its own, and no test area, fleet size, vehicle count or launch window has been given.
The UK's Automated Passenger Services regulations, in force since May 15, 2026, require Department for Transport approval and, in London, Transport for London consent before a company can carry passengers. Pony.ai joins a crowded queue: Waymo has tested since April 2026 and Apollo Go since July 2026, and neither has public riders yet. See UK rules for the process.
The only robotaxi you can book in London today is a supervised Wayve car on Uber. Pony.ai and Uber already work together in Zagreb, where Uber riders can book Verne-operated Pony.ai cars with a licensed operator behind the wheel. The Gen-7 vehicles slated for London are the same generation Pony.ai runs fully driverless in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Beijing.
