Where the cars go
Waymo's Atlanta zone is a long north-south band. It starts in Buckhead, runs down through Midtown and Downtown, and ends around Capitol View and South Atlanta. Uber's launch announcement put it at 65 sq mi. Published sources name neighborhoods but no boundary streets, so the east and west edges on the map are estimates. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is missing from Waymo's help-center airport list, and nothing published says whether Atlanta trips use freeways.
May Mobility covers a much smaller pocket. Its Lyft pilot stays around Midtown, east of the Connector, up to about Piedmont Park, then out to Virginia-Highland and down through the Old Fourth Ward to Inman Park and Edgewood. Zoox lists Atlanta on its Where to Ride page, but Electrek describes it as a testing city, and no public riders are reported.
What to know in Atlanta
No public ride in Atlanta is booked in an operator's own app. Waymo rides come only through Uber, and May Mobility's pilot comes only through Lyft. A report by The Next Web says Waymo plans to end the Uber exclusivity in Austin and Atlanta and launch its own app there in Jan 2028, with the fleet staying on Uber through at least May 2028.
Atlanta has also seen Waymo stop service entirely for a stretch. Atlanta News First reported that Waymo paused the city on May 20, 2026 after a car got stuck in floodwater, and resumed on May 27, 2026. May Mobility runs a different kind of service: a small fleet of Toyota Sienna vehicles with a standby operator aboard, Monday to Friday in limited hours. See the Georgia rules page for the state law.
