Riding Waymo in Atlanta
Uber announced the Atlanta zone on Jun 24, 2025, at 65 sq mi. On a map it looks like a tall strip, with Buckhead at the top, Midtown and Downtown in the middle, and Capitol View and South Atlanta at the bottom. No source names the boundary streets, so the east and west edges on the Atlanta map are estimates.
To ride, open Uber rather than the Waymo app. When the car pulls up, its rooftop dome shows your initials, and you open it from the Uber app, where help is available around the clock (so is the screen inside the car). Solo riders must be 18 or older, and the parent-linked teen accounts Waymo offers in Phoenix and Nashville don't exist in Atlanta. Hartsfield-Jackson is missing from Waymo's help-center airport list, and no published source says whether Atlanta trips ever use a freeway.
Nobody sits aboard a Waymo to take over, which sets it apart from the other two companies tied to Atlanta. May Mobility's weekday Lyft pilot keeps a standby operator in the car within a small pocket of Midtown, and Zoox is testing without public riders. The booking setup may change later. The Next Web reported that Waymo plans to end Uber exclusivity in Atlanta and Austin and open its own app in both cities in Jan 2028, while the fleet stays on Uber through at least May 2028.
