What's happening in Riyadh
WeRide robotaxis began carrying Uber passengers in Riyadh on Oct 24, 2025, and each car has a vehicle operator on board. As of Oct 13, 2026, no source confirmed that Riyadh's service had gone driverless.
The cars run on dedicated routes between Roshn Front and Princess Noura University. That is a fixed corridor, not a citywide zone, so a robotaxi match only makes sense for trips along it. Booking happens in the standard Uber app. No fares, hours or airport service have been published for Riyadh.
WeRide's record in the Gulf hints at the likely next step. In Abu Dhabi, its Uber service also began with safety operators (in Dec 2024) and became fully driverless on Nov 25, 2025. In Dubai, WeRide on Uber is already driverless. No such timeline has been announced for Riyadh. The nearest US comparison is a supervised pilot such as May Mobility's on Lyft in Atlanta, which also keeps a person in the car. WeRide's other cities are on the operator page.
