What's happening in Zagreb
Uber riders in Zagreb can book Pony.ai robotaxis operated by Verne, though someone sits behind the wheel. Uber announced the service on Aug 19, 2026, calling Zagreb the first market under the partnership. Pony.ai's own post the next day said riders here were the first in Europe to book an autonomous vehicle through Uber. A licensed operator monitors each trip.
The service covers main parts of the city, including the center, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to Pony.ai. Book it in the normal Uber app. A separate program is further along. Self Drive News reported that Verne and Pony.ai began fully driverless test rides for invited passengers on a 22 km route in September 2026. Those rides are not open to the public, and Pony.ai has not given a date for driverless public service.
Measured against US cities with fully driverless service, such as Austin, Zagreb is a step behind. Within Europe it is one of two cities with public robotaxi rides on Uber. The other is London, also supervised. Madrid and Zurich are still at the permit or planning stage. See Pony.ai in Zagreb for sources.
