Riding Waymo in Miami
Waymo welcomed its first Miami public riders on Jan 22, 2026 by rolling invite, in an area of about 60 sq mi covering the Design District, Wynwood, Brickell and Coral Gables. The Apr 15, 2026 opening added Miami Beach, and Hoodline reported Bal Harbour as well. Waymo's own map now shows about 150 sq mi, from West Miami and South Miami up to Miami Gardens and North Miami Beach, though that figure appears to count Biscayne Bay between the mainland and the beach.
Highways came with the April opening, with I-95, the Dolphin (SR 836) and the Palmetto (SR 826) available to riders on an early-access list. Waymo paused all freeway rides on May 21, 2026, and although September reports cite Miami freeway miles and restoration has been reported as expected, no restoration date was found, so a highway route isn't guaranteed. Waymo said it plans to expand to Miami International Airport soon, but the airport is not yet on its help-center list, and the MIA page follows it. Solo riders must be 18, and teen accounts are not offered.
Tesla, Miami's other public robotaxi, covers about 30.8 sq mi in West Miami, Doral and Coral Gables through its own app and leaves out Miami Beach and Downtown, so Brickell, Wynwood and beach trips go to Waymo. Tesla allows children 8 to 17 with an adult, while Waymo's minimum for solo riders is 18. Zoox carries only employees and their guests near the water around Edgewater.
