Riding Tesla in Miami
Miami was Tesla's first market outside Texas and California. The zone covers West Miami, Doral and Coral Gables and leaves out Downtown and Miami Beach. Not a Tesla App put the starting area at roughly 20 square miles, and the current published size is 30.8 sq mi, running from Doral and Sweetwater east to about LeJeune Rd and south across US-41 into Coral Gables. A rider video showed no driver or monitor, but Tesla didn't say whether every Miami car is unsupervised.
Miami International Airport falls inside the geofence, Not a Tesla App reported, but Tesla has no authorized terminal pickups or drop-offs there, so it won't get you to a flight. Booking is in the Tesla Robotaxi app, and the account holder must be 18 or older. Children 8 to 17 may ride in a Model Y with an adult, and under-8s can't ride. No source says whether Miami trips use highways, and no Miami fares are published.
Waymo covers far more of Miami, about 150 sq mi on its own map, reaching Downtown, Wynwood, Brickell, Miami Beach and Bal Harbour through the Waymo app, and the two zones overlap mainly around Coral Gables and West Miami. Tesla publishes rules for riders 8 to 17 traveling with an adult, while Waymo offers no teen accounts in Miami. Zoox rides are for employees and their friends and family. Florida law lets fully autonomous cars run with or without a human aboard, as Florida rules explains.
