What's happening in Eden Prairie

In this suburb southwest of Minneapolis, autonomous rides come through the local transit agency instead of a robotaxi app. May Mobility runs commercial autonomous microtransit with SouthWest Transit, and trips are requested in the agency's Prime app, which is powered by Spare. SouthWest Transit announced the arrangement on Jul 8, 2024, and a May Mobility press release filed with the SEC on Sep 16, 2026 lists Eden Prairie among its autonomous ride services.

Unlike a Waymo ride, this one comes with a person up front. Minnesota law requires a licensed human driver to help operate these vehicles, as NPR reported in December 2025, so an operator is on board every trip. Anyone can use the service, but it isn't a driverless ride, and the state requirement has not changed.

Minneapolis is a short drive northeast, and Waymo is testing there without public riders. A ride with nobody in the driver's seat means a long trip, to Denver, where Waymo admits riders from a waitlist, or to Nashville, where Waymo runs driverless rides open to the public.
