Since Dec 3, 2025: Waymo announced manual driving in St. Louis.

What's happening in St. Louis

Waymo began manual testing in St. Louis in December 2025, according to TechCrunch's Dec 3, 2025 report, which also covered Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. People drive the cars, and no public riders are on board.

Expect that to continue. A Missouri bill, HB2069, failed in 2026, and KMOV First Alert 4 reported on Jun 26, 2026 that Waymo would stay in manual testing "for the foreseeable future." The station's headline pointed to local regulations paving the way in St. Louis City and County, but the state bill was the missing piece, and Waymo has set no launch date.

The nearest public service is in Nashville, to the southeast, where Waymo matches riders through Lyft and its own app. Atlanta and Dallas are the next closest, and Dallas has the most choice, with Waymo, Tesla Robotaxi and Avride on Uber.
