Riding Zoox in Los Angeles
Zoox lists Los Angeles on its Where to Ride page without details, and Electrek counts it as a testing city, with vehicles on the road and nobody riding. The firmer plan is the Zoox and Uber partnership announced on Mar 11, 2026, which named Las Vegas for summer 2026 and Los Angeles by mid-2027, with LA rides bookable through Uber as well as the Zoox app. No area, fare or start date has been set.
California permits limit what Zoox can do here. The CPUC lists Zoox with drivered and driverless pilot permits only, which don't allow fares, and that is why San Francisco riders invited off the Zoox Explorers waitlist ride free. Waymo holds the full set of four AV permits, including driverless deployment with fares, and a paid Zoox service in LA would need more than Zoox holds now, as the California rules page explains.
Zoox sells rides in Las Vegas, between fixed stops along the Strip and at Harry Reid airport. In Los Angeles today, Waymo is open to the public door to door across more than 120 sq mi in its app, and MOIA is testing ID.
