Riding Waymo in Phoenix
Phoenix is Waymo's oldest public market. Simplified from Waymo's map, the area covers about 350 sq mi across Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler and Gilbert, including the San Tan Ranch area added in Aug 2026. TechCrunch reported on Jun 29, 2026 that Waymo rides were no longer offered on Uber in Phoenix, which leaves the Waymo app as the only way to book.
Phoenix Sky Harbor is served. At Terminals 3 and 4, meet the car at the Level 1 outer curb at South Door 8, or use the Sky Train 24th St and 44th St stations, as the PHX guide shows. Freeways returned here first, on Jul 29, 2026, after the May 21, 2026 pause. Price checks by RideWise, cited by the Denver Gazette, found Downtown to Sky Harbor (14 mi) at $33.20 by Waymo against $22.40 by UberX.
Phoenix is also one of two cities with teen accounts, which let riders 13 to 17 ride alone on a parent-linked account (see teen accounts), and manually driven wheelchair-accessible vehicles are requested through Support. No other operator carries Phoenix riders. Electrek reports Zoox testing and mapping here, with a Phoenix depot and a Scottsdale Fusion Center. Tesla listed Phoenix among its next Robotaxi cities in Jan 2026 and later moved it to preparations underway, but no launch has been found.
